Pro-Trump ad targets man cave dwellers worried about Clinton meddling with football

With less than 24 hours until Election Day, Donald Trump is targeting a very, very specific group of voters — football fans who oppose a name change for Washington's NFL team.

Pro-Trump super PAC Rebuild America Now released a new commercial bashing Hillary Clinton's desire to change the Redskins' name, which many consider offensive to Native Americans. Clinton called the team's name "insensitive" in a 2014 interview, saying "there's no reason for it to continue as the name of a team in our nation's capital."

According to the Trump ad, that means she's trying to "mess up your football."

“Yeah, you thought you were safe sitting in your recliner in your man cave, cold beer and a bowl of chips," the ad says. "Ha, you thought you’d escaped politics by focusing on football. Wrong. Hillary Clinton wants to mess up your football, too. Hillary wants to change the name of the Redskins. Hillary’s priorities are not your priorities.”

The team's name has come under fire in recent years. Even amid protests and campaigns to change it — which include viable substitute mascots — there's been a movement to keep the name as well.

Owner Dan Snyder's reasons for keeping it are vague at best, calling the name "a unifying force that stands for strength, courage, pride and respect" in 2013. Washington defended the name again in a 2014 ad, which said the name reminds Native Americans of their "cultural background and heritage."

With Election Day looming, Trump could use all the man cave-dwelling, cold beer-drinking voters he can get.
