Donald Trump and Marco Rubio just can't help themselves, and their political punch-for-punch keeps getting weirder.

The Republican presidential contenders spent the day Friday slinging mud at each other across the state of Texas. First, Rubio slammed the billionaire businessman for a series of misspelled tweets.

But Trump has his own bizarre take-down up his sleeve.

At a campaign rally in Fort Worth, Texas, later in the day, Trump reached behind his podium and pulled out a water bottle and held it up to a cheering crowd.

"It's Rubio!" he exclaimed before sloshing water all over the stage, and making a mocking face to the crowd.

Trump supporters in the audience ate it up, cheering their candidate along throughout the strange demonstration.

Shortly before Trump took to the stage he appeared at a press conference where New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie endorsed him. He also used that as an opportunity for some Rubio bashing.

"He totally destroyed Marco Rubio the other day," Trump said, referring to Christie's takedown of Rubio during a debate in New Hampshire. "I was standing beside him and he melted."

It seemed that Christie was also taking on the role of defending Trump against his rivals, using the announcement to also take aim at Rubio.

Rubio's debate performance, which drew praise from political commentators, amounted to "flailing punches in the last day of a losing campaign," Christie said.

The jabs come a day after the final GOP debate before Super Tuesday, which saw Trump and Rubio at each other's throats for much of the two-and-a-half hour event.

For months, Rubio had avoided a direct assault on Trump, before unleashing on him with the help of fellow GOP contender Ted Cruz during Thursday night's debate.
