LONDON -- You know that old saying about the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?

Well if the picture below is anything to go by, a pond in London's Victoria Park may well have some sunken treasure in its depths.

So what's the deal with the picture above?

Well, the clue could well be in the fountain. According to the UK's Met Office, "rainbows are formed when sunlight is scattered from raindrops into the eyes of an observer" -- so in the picture above, the spray from the fountain could be taking the role of the raindrops to refract the sunlight.

Mashable has reached out to the Met Office with questions about the photo, and we will update this article when we receive a response.

UPDATED 30 MARCH 2016 12:35 GMT: Emma Sharples, a Meteorologist at the Met Office, got back to Mashable with the following explanation.

"This picture is of a double rainbow with the moisture source originating from the fountain on the pond, hence the ‘start point’," she said.

"Of course in the countryside, more typically rainbows are as a result of rain showers causing light to be reflected, refracted and dispersed and the moisture source is more distributed through the atmosphere.

"In this case, the inner rainbow across the pond is the main, brighter, bow with a secondary one in the sky above -- it is more diffuse with its colours reversed."
