LONDON -- First, we had a plain blue square. Then we had a (very brief) New Year's Day announcement of new music.

And now, this:

OK, good: so we have an exact time. But do those symbols mean what we think they mean?

Any Ed Sheeran fans familiar with his first two albums (+ and x) will have had the same thought after watching that video: surely this is a sign that a new album, Divide, could be on the way?

No one could cope.

Now the last thing we want to do is derail any Sheeran-based hype, but it's possible that we may only get one song on Friday rather than the full album. An early single, perhaps?

Either way, though, 2017 is certainly off to a good start for Sheeran fans.

UPDATE: Jan. 3, 2017, 4:08 p.m. GMT On Tuesday afternoon Sheeran sent yet another mysterious tweet.
