LONDON -- Following last December's announcement that he'd be taking a break from social media for a while, Ed Sheeran has now been absent for a full year.

Prior to Tuesday morning, Sheeran's last tweet was posted on Dec. 13, 2015.

Now -- exactly a year to the day -- he's finally made his return.

Pretty mysterious, right?

Sheeran also changed his profile picture and cover photo to the same shade of blue. His Facebook page has undergone exactly the same transformation, as has his Instagram.

People were clearly pleased to see him again.

Many could barely contain their glee.

Others tried to work out what it all meant.

Is this a sign that a new album could be on its way? The first in a trail of clues that will be tweeted in the run up to Christmas?

We'll have to wait and see, but one thing's clear -- there aren't many people that could drum up this much excitement with just a single colour.
