Ed Sheeran certainly knows how to pull a crowd, especially in the middle of a Australian laneway.

The singer performed a free gig in Melbourne's Hosier Lane on Monday as part of a live cross from the iHeartRadio Music Awards, where he took home the award for Song of the Year.

"Sorry, I can't be there, I'm in Melbourne at the moment, it is 10:15 in the morning and I am accepting this award," he said, before launching into a performance of his award-winning single "Perfect."

"Thank you so much to all the programmers at iHeart, all the radio DJs, and all the fans. And they've set up so I can play, so I'm gonna play if that's alright."

And yep, you bet people turned up to sing along.

Sheeran is in Australia for a country-wide tour, where he's been impressing fans by bringing them pizza. What a nice guy.
