'Fear the Walking Dead' becomes a slick endless runner for iOS
AMC's unstoppable zombie plague has already spread to two different TV series, and now it's claimed another victim: iOS devices.
Fear the Walking Dead: Dead Run is a new free-to-play game based on the first show's Los Angeles-set spinoff. It's an endless runner (think Temple Run) that's light on story but heavy on style.

Presented in black and white with silhouetted human and undead characters, Dead Run immediately evokes indie darling Limbo. It can be hard to see the action if you're in a brightly-lit room, even on a large iPad Pro 9.7-inch screen -- but at least it's visually distinct.
The play is what you'd expect for a zombie-focused endless runner. Your chosen Fear the Walking Dead character -- each of whom enjoys different bonuses -- runs ever-forward as you tap the screen to shoot/bash zombies, collect power-ups and save civilians.
The free-to-play component awards you with coins at the end of every run that you can use to unlock new playable characters, top off your ammo and more. You also need to spend a few coins whenever you start a new run, but it's always less than the amount you earned from the previous run.
We haven't spent enough time playing around with Dead Run to have a sense of how intrusive (or not) the free-to-play elements are, though.
