These colourful e-books make 'Game of Thrones' infinitely easier to follow

LONDON -- Anyone who has read George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series will know that it's not the most straightforward of tales.

There are time jumps, epic histories, two vast, sprawling continents and enough characters to require an enormous appendix rammed full of different family trees. Basically, the occasional bit of flicking back and forth is essential if you want to keep up with what the sweet hell is going on.

For anyone who enjoys reading on their phone or tablet, though, there's good news: a new digital edition of the Game of Thrones books has been released that allows you to actually track characters on a Westeros-sized map.

A Game of Thrones: Enhanced Edition (iBooks and HarperVoyager) basically takes advantage of its digital format to incorporate character descriptions, House explainers and location reminders into the story.

“We’re now entering a new period in the history of publishing,” George R.R. Martin was quoted as saying in a press release sent to Mashable.

“The digital book gives readers the ability to experience all this rich secondary material that had not been possible before."

"These enhanced editions available only on iBooks include sigils and family trees and glossaries. Anything that confuses you, anything you want to know more about, it’s right there at your fingertips."

A Game of Thrones is currently available on the Apple store. According to the press release, the remaining books will be made available in the coming months.
