LONDON -- It's been a horrendously long 10 months, but the finish line is finally in sight.

We've had frustrating teaser images, frustrating teaser trailers, frustrating actual trailers, and now -- brace yourselves -- we have some frustratingly thin details about the start of season six.

On Friday morning, the Independent reported that HBO had released the title and a short synopsis of episode one, as well as a description of the upcoming season. Let's tackle them one by one...

Title: "The Red Woman"

There's only really one person this title can refer to, and that's Melisandre. The same Melisandre who's currently at The Wall with everyone's favourite is-he-isn't-he dead bastard, Jon Snow. Also the same Melisandre who presumably possesses similar Lord of Light-given powers to Thoros of Myr, the Red Priest who brought Beric Dondarrion back from the dead.

Episode One Synopsis:

"Jon Snow is dead. Daenerys meets a strong man. Cersei sees her daughter again." (Yep, that's the full synopsis.)

They're clearly just trolling us now. The question of whether or not Jon Snow is dead must have become a running joke at HBO, which clearly took gleeful pleasure last month in showing us Snow's lifeless body in the trailer. And now, very deliberately, they've hammered the message home in the first line of their synopsis.

Elsewhere, Daenerys' "strong man" is likely some kind of Dothraki leader (or fellow prisoner), and the bit about Cersei will refer to Jaime bringing Myrcella's body home to King's Landing.

Season six description:

"Following the shocking developments at the conclusion of season five, including Jon Snow’s bloody fate at the hands of Castle Black mutineers, Daenerys’ near-demise at the fighting pits of Meereen, and Cersei’s public humiliation in the streets of King’s Landing, survivors from all parts of Westeros and Essos regroup to press forward, inexorably, towards their uncertain individual fates. Familiar faces will forge new alliances to bolster their strategic chances at survival, while new characters will emerge to challenge the balance of power in the east, west, north and south."

Despite being the longest new piece of information we have about season six, the description is definitely the lightest on actual information. For all the talk of regrouping and pressing forward, it's basically just a bit of a re-cap plus some vague mentions of alliances and new characters.

Still, not long to go now and we'll have the real thing.

The first episode of Game of Thrones season six will be shown on 24 April 2016 (both on HBO and Sky Atlantic).

Mashable has reached out to HBO to confirm the details above.
