A scorecard for this season's big 'Game of Thrones' fan theories

This post contains spoilers for everything. Not only Game of Thrones, but also your own future. Read carefully.

The only things Game of Thrones generates more than the tears of viewers are fan theories.

Attempting to predict outcomes to various characters' storylines certainly makes a show like GoT more enjoyable. It's just -- and don't get us wrong here -- sometimes we all go a bit overboard.

From detailed and well-researched theories about the identity of Jon Snow's parents to 1,000-word Reddit posts about the identity of an extra in a blue suit, the vast library of Game of Thrones fan theories is hard to keep track of.

To help, we've collected some of the bigger theories from Season 6 that were either proven right or very, very wrong, and graded them on a helpful scale.

Jon Snow is alive

The theory that Jon Snow would somehow survive, or be reanimated, after his stabbing at the hands of the Night's Watch was obviously correct earlier this season.

Before his return in episode two, however, many thought they'd discovered Snow alive in the Season 6 trailer, riding a horse in battle. As we recently learned in the Battle of the Bastards, this was not Snow, who fell off his horse like, basically right away.

Syrio Florel is back

Syrio Florel, the Bravosi who taught Arya Stark how to sword-fight way back in the first season, was theorized to have made his triumphant return in a Season 6, episode eight preview. The preview featured a man in shadows standing behind the waif, who had curly hair and shoulder pads.

Of course, the episode aired and the shadowy figure was not Syrio, but wow would it have been a cool return for the first sword of Braavos.

Arya is being followed by some dude in a blue onesie

This is my favorite fan theory of the season, honestly. After being stabbed in the stomach by the Waif, we watched Arya stumble, terrified, through the streets of Braavos.

One Redditor spotted a random extra in the scene that appeared to turn around and follow her, and a slew of fans piled on more evidence. 

When the next episode aired, we learned that this blue suit man was just a well-dressed extra. But hey, good for him. Put this on your résumé, blue-onesie guy!

The Umbers are secretly loyal

Many of us wanted to believe that there was something deeper to Rickon Stark's capture by Ramsay Bolton. One Redditor even wrote a 23-point argument about why the Umbers were not, as it seemed, loyal to the Boltons after all.

Unfortunately, we were all wrong. The Umbers betrayed House Stark and, by association, killed Rickon on the battlefield.

Arya and the Waif are the same person

Arya and the Waif have a complicated relationship, but it's probably not this complicated. One popular fan theory predicted that the two warriors were, in fact, the same person. There's certainly evidence for it -- Jaqen H'ghar only ever spoke to one of the characters, the Waif always knew when Arya was lying, etc. We just think it's a little intense for a show like Game of Thrones.

Arya has since killed the Waif and given her face to Jaqen, so it seems that they were always two separate people. That being said, this theory is still somewhat plausible, though very unlikely.

R+L=J

The penultimate fan theory of the series is R+L=J, which (of course) states that Jon Snow is not a bastard of Ned Stark and is instead the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark.

The Season 6 finale confirmed at least half of the theory -- that Lyanna is Jon's mother and Ned is merely his cool uncle. The identity of Jon's father was never stated aloud, but we know that it was Rhaegar who placed her in the Tower of Joy, so basically we can infer who got her pregnant. I mean, come on.

Cersei will burn King's Landing

After Bran's rapid-fire vision, part of which included green fire roaring through a tunnel, many fans predicted that Cersei Lannister would ultimately burn King's Landing to the ground using the rumored stores of wildfire left around the city by King Aerys.

As we saw in the finale, that theory was completely correct.

Now, on to next season, when we will finally be able to confirm that Tyrion is a Targaryen.
