The only thing worse than missing your flight is arriving on time just to realize the flight's been delayed for a couple of hours, and there's nothing you can do besides sip expensive airport coffee and worry about missing a meeting and/or a connecting flight.

Google's excellent Flights service has a new feature that should help remedy this. The app will not only list confirmed flight delays, but it will also display reasons for the delays and, in some cases, even predict delays.

Google says it's feeding historic flight status data to its machine learning algorithms to predict delays, and while the results won't always be accurate, the company is 80% sure about its predictions. To check out if a flight's been delayed, search for the airline and flight number or flight route, and you'll get the details in the results.

Another new feature in Google Flights is detailed information on what a certain fare, like "Basic Economy," really means in terms of baggage fees, seat selection etc. Google Flights will show this info for flights on American, Delta and United.

The new features are live on Google Flights, which is available on flights.google.com.
