Thankfully, "the coronavirus" didn't make Google Trends' top Halloween costume list.

The company created the Frightgeist portal to inject a little spooky flair into highlighting what people are looking at for Halloween inspiration, even if it's just for a Zoom costume party. The top 50 costumes in the U.S. starts with the most stereotypical outfit for Oct. 31: a witch costume.

The top five continues with dinosaur, Harley Quinn, rabbit, and clown costumes.

The costume most closely connected to current events was a cop costume (number 50), after a summer of protests about racial justice and police violence. Notably, a cop costume made it onto Mashable's list of things not to dress as this Halloween. Oops.

There's also a map of the U.S. to see which costumes are trending in different parts of the country (we see all you Tinker Bells in Philly), and you can make it local enough to see what's the most popular get-up around you. Based on a search in my location, I would be seeing a lot of lions if COVID-19 social distancing measures didn't mean curtailed festivities in 2020.
