Tragically Hip's Gord Downie diagnosed with terminal cancer

Gord Downie, lead singer of rock band the Tragically Hip, has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. 

The band announced the news to fans on Tuesday morning on Facebook.

"A few months ago, in December, Gord Downie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer," the statement reads. "Since then, obviously, he’s endured a lot of difficult times, and he has been fighting hard. In privacy along with his family, and through all of this, we've been standing by him."

Downie, 52, is the Canadian band's frontman and a founding member since 1984. He has four children with wife Laura Leigh Usher. 

The band also announced that they plan on doing one more tour this summer, though dates have not yet been announced. 

"This feels like the right thing to do now, for Gord, and for all of us ... So, we’re going to dig deep, and try to make this our best tour yet," they write.
