October's come early.

Horror mastermind John Carpenter will executive produce a new Halloween movie, Entertainment Weekly reports.

“Thirty-eight years after the original Halloween I’m going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all,” Carpenter said in a statement.

The spooky franchise, about a masked murderer named Michael Myers, kicked off in 1978. Carpenter directed the horror classic, which also starred Jamie Lee Curtis.

The new installment will be produced by Malek Akkad, who also produced numerous other Halloween sequels. His father, Moustapha, produced the original. Miramax and Blumhouse Productions will co-finance development and production.

Halloween is one of those milestone films that inspired everyone at our company to get into the world of scary movies,” Blumhouse chief Jason Blum said. “The great Malek Akkad and John Carpenter have a special place in the hearts of all genre fans and we are so excited that Miramax brought us together. We cannot wait to find and collaborate with the right filmmaker to give Halloween fans the movie they deserve.”

Carpenter may also compose the new film's music, according to a press statement from Blumhouse, but "negotiations are still in progress."
