Hoist your banners and saddle up your dragons: Season 2 of HBO's House of the Dragon is less than a year away.

The new season is set to premiere in early summer of 2024, HBO and Max CEO Casey Bloys revealed at a press event on Nov. 2. It will continue to adapt George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, a "historical" account of the Targaryen civil war. Season 2 is currently in post-production, and will be made up of eight episodes as opposed to the first season's 10.

The House of the Dragon news comes as part of a larger announcement about HBO and Max's upcoming television programming. 2024 will see the release of new seasons of HBO and Max staples like True Detective: Night Country, Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12, The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 3, Hacks Season 3, and Industry Season 3. True crime phenomenon The Jinx will also be getting a second part, focused on the aftermath of Robert Durst's conviction.

Tentpole shows based on Warner Bros. IP like The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy are slated for later 2024 release dates. New original shows and miniseries like The Regime (starring Kate Winslet), Park Chan-wook's The Sympathizer, and superhero spoof The Franchise are also on the docket.

Bloys revealed that other popular HBO series like The Last of Us and The White Lotus are eyeing releases in 2025. The Westeros-set A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, based on Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg, is tentatively set to begin production in spring of 2024. The same goes for The Last of Us Season 2, although the start of production depends on whether the striking Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) reaches a fair deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
