This is one way to save on groceries.

Artist Howard Lee has an amazing talent for creating extremely realistic drawings, often of different foods.

Lee posts videos to his Instagram, where he shows which items are real and which are his works of art. A knife is often his tool of choice when it comes to the main reveal.

"You start with a few sketchy lines and then everything after that is a 'spot the difference,'" Lee told Mashable in an email. "You compare the differences and correct them. For hyper realistic art you just don't stop that process until you've created an illusion of sorts. With my own work it's important that reality and drawing look the same from the perspective of a camera so there's quite a process of checking/comparing for me there."

Lee enjoys drawing anything that confuses the eye. Perhaps best known for his hot dog drawing, he says he always seems to come back to food.

"I don't know why," he said. "Perhaps they are just everyday and plain so I guess that contributes to the illusion. You don't expect anything odd to happen with such common objects."

After the hot dog video gained popularity, Lee has experienced some huge life changes.

"In the space of about a week, I went from getting some attention online to being contacted round the clock by TV companies, online newspapers and magazines," he said. "People have been approaching me with ideas to get their products into my videos. I'm very busy now producing commissioned video work. It's pretty intense."

Below are several of Lee's best works, complete with some surprising reveals.

Lee says his Instagram followers should keep an eye out in the coming months.

"I've some big new ideas to try out," he said.
