After user complaints that the iPhone X's screen becomes unresponsive in very cold weather, Apple has announced it's working on a software update to address the issue.

The issue was raised by a Reddit user on Thursday, and several other users chimed in, saying they've experienced something similar.

"I've noticed that my iPhone X screen becomes very unresponsive as soon as I step outside. It literally takes 2 seconds from going inside to the cold outdoors and my screen stops being very responsive. I try swiping on websites and it doesn't register my finger. It's very noticeable. Is anyone else having this problem?" asked darus214.

According to another user responding in the same thread, locking and unlocking the screen fixes this issue, but it still sounds like a nuisance (I haven't experienced anything of the sorts on my iPhone X).

Apple has responded in a statement to The Loop.

"We are aware of instances where the iPhone X screen will become temporarily unresponsive to touch after a rapid change to a cold environment. After several seconds the screen will become fully responsive again. This will be addressed in an upcoming software update," said Apple.

Apple's official guidance for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is to use them in environments where the ambient temperature is between 32º and 95º F; otherwise the device might "change its behavior" or "temporarily shorten battery life." The guidelines also say you should store these devices in environments where temperature is between -4º to 113º F.
