The most unpopular couple in King's Landing might have even more tragedy of Greek myth proportions in the near future.

A popular fan theory arising on the Internet suggests that Cersei's ultimate downfall will come at the hands of her brother/lover, Jaime Lannister.

And, wait for it, the future doesn't seem too bright for Jaime either.

The theory, laid out by Redditor RobertGoulet850, states that Cersei will inevitably be choked to death by Jaime. Following her death, Jaime will also die by either by his own hand or by being caught in the wildfire that Cersei unleashes on King's Landing.

Cersei and Jaime's ultimate demise is laid out, almost perfectly, by a prophecy that Cersei was given as a young girl by the witch, Maggy the Frog.

Here are the three parts of Cersei's prophecy, laid out by Maggy:

  • When Cersei asks if she will marry the Prince, Maggy says, "Never. You will wed the king.”

  • When Cersei asks if she will be queen, Maggy says, "Queen you shall be… until there comes another, younger and more beautiful, to cast you down and take all that you hold dear."

  • When Cersei asks if she will have children with the King, Maggy says, "Oh, aye. Six-and-ten for him, and three for you," adding, "gold shall be their crowns and gold their shrouds. And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.”

So far, most of the prophecy is quickly coming to fruition:

1. Cersei, who was expected to marry Rhaegar Targaryen, ended up married to Robert Baratheon after Rhaegar married Elia Martell and was killed by Baratheon. King Aerys was also killed by Jamie Lannister.

2. Robert Baratheon has tons of bastard children (20 in the show, 16 in the books), while all of Cersei's children were fathered by Jamie: Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen.

3. So far, both Joffrey and Myrcella have been killed, and it looks like Tommen may also share the same fate. Theories about Margaery, the presumable "younger and more beautiful" woman who will "cast [Cersei] down and take all that [Cersei holds] dear" suggest she is working on a plan that will end in Tommen's death.

The end of the prophecy states that "valonqar," which is High Valyrian for "little brother" will kill her. Jamie is Cersei's twin, born after her, which means he may be the valonqar.

However, it's important to note that Tyrion is also her younger brother. Cersei always assumed he would be the brother who ends her life -- which makes for some very awkward family reunions.

Cersei is most likely planning to spread the deadly wildfire throughout the city, using the secret caches hidden at strategic points, if King Tommen dies. King Aerys tried to do this as well, but his plan was stopped when Jamie killed him.

It seems that the Kingslayer might become the Queenslayer.
