10 of the most laugh-out-loud James Corden sketches from 2019

Dodgeball, singing, and one very awkward impression.

James Corden may be best known for his late show hosting and vehicle-based vocals, but back in the day his main gigs were acting and TV writing.

It shows, too. One of the things that helps differentiate The Late Late Show from its competitors are the regular short sketches — many of which involve Corden beautifully embarrassing himself in front of various celebrities.

2019 was a big year for these. From a rage-inducing book quiz to the most star-studded dodgeball game ever, here are 10 of the best...

You May Also Like

1. The time he set up a dancing class for NBA stars.

Fed up with NFL's big men being left out of the limelight, Corden takes it upon himself to teach four players how to dance in the clip above.

His unorthodox teaching techniques make for delightful viewing, but the real stars of this sketch are Malik Jackson, Justin Pugh, Brandon Parker and A'Shawn Robinson (all of whom really give it 110 percent).

2. The time he hung out with Jason Momoa for a day.

The star of Aquaman attempting to shoot an arrow off James Corden's head — what's not to like?

3. This lopsided book quiz.

If there's one thing James Corden does particularly well in his sketches, it's deadpan anger.

The "book quiz" above — in which Corden gets frustrated when every single one of his questions relates to The Very Hungry Caterpillar — is the perfect example of this.

4. The time his show was interrupted by Billy Porter's dramatic entrance.

More deadpan anger, this time directed at Billy Porter — who has the audacity to take too long making an entrance on The Late Late Show, and gets "kicked off" by Corden as a result.

Porter's response? An even grander entrance, set to the tune of "I Will Survive."

5. This brutal impression from an "audience member."

Recognise the "audience member" doing the impression?

Yep, it's the same guy that hosts the awkward book quiz above (the very same man that also appears in this secret Santa sketch from 2016). He may be a planted member of the Late Late Show staff, but you can't fault his Corden impression.

6. This sunny London bus tour with the Dark Phoenix cast.

Because nothing beats a sunny day in an open-top bus (especially when your companions include Sophie Turner and James McAvoy — aka "Ace").

7. The time he tried to out-waiter Chris Hemsworth.

It's not entirely clear how many of the guests at London's Northall restaurant know what's happening in the sketch above, which makes Corden's contest with Chris Hemsworth all the more entertaining.

You can probably guess how this one ends — going up against Thor is only ever going to end one way, after all — but the journey makes for wonderful viewing.

8. This star-studded dodgeball game.

Michelle Obama taking on Harry Styles in a celebrity-packed dodgeball game — what else is there to say?

9. The time he and Paul Rudd tried their hand at kids' music.

Not many people know that Corden and Paul Rudd were once in the business of making children's music together.

It's a wonder "The Naptime Boys" didn't take off, too, especially when you see how much enthusiasm Rudd puts into his facial expressions.

10. And finally, this epic rendition of Frozen.

Corden may not have got the chance to play Elsa, but he does make a wonderfully grumpy snowflake in the above rendition of Frozen — all of which is performed in the middle of a traffic-clogged crosswalk in LA.
