Since their warrior skills dropped out of vogue in the mid-19th century, ninjas have been facing a tough job market.

But the drought may be over: Tourism officials in Japan's Aichi prefecture are hiring six full-time ninjas.

Aichi prefecture markets itself as the "warlords' hometown," as the region was home to the feudal-era warlord Oda Nobunaga. Officials are looking to hire a six-person ninja team to promote "warlord tourism."

Chosen ninjas will be expected to don ninja garb and perform at public events in Japan and abroad. The salary is about $1,600 per month.

Applicants must be physically fit, acrobatic (able to perform back handsprings), over 18 and interested in the history of Japan and its warlords. Knowledge of Japanese is preferred, but not required.

Foreigners can apply by sending in a résumé and photo. Successful candidates will be called back for an interview and to demonstrate their ninja skills.

Applications are open until March 22 and the job starts in May.
