Adolescence can be a tough time. It can be an even tougher time when who you are becomes the subject of ridicule and bullying.

At a rally on Saturday in Brisbane, one half of Australian music duo The Veronicas, Jess Origliasso posted a touching Instagram tribute to Tyrone Unsworth, a gay 13-year-old who tragically died by suicide after being bullied at school.

The rally was attended by hundreds, who came to honour Unsworth as well as show support for the threatened Safe Schools education program.

The program is a non-compulsory education program for LGBTQ youth in Australia, teaching inclusivity and providing a safe environment for teens to ask questions and promote healthy development.

It was in that crowd on Saturday that Origliasso -- partner of OITNB star Ruby Rose -- stood with the grandmother of the late Tyrone Unsworth.

Taking to Instagram to pledge her support, Origliasso said that Unsworth's death hit close to home.

"Kids like Tyrone are bullied and made to feel like outcasts for their sexual or gender diversity and interests ... My heart breaks to know my best friends growing up were exactly like Tyrone, but that I couldn't help him."

Origliasso used to post to call for change Australia, from its inability to institute marriage equality and for the "LGBTQIA+ community to have the same freedoms and rights as everyone else!"

She continued: "Please Australia, it's time to do more. Tyrone should still be here with us today. If only we had schools and legal rights that show all LGBTIQA+ youths, and bullies that the LGBTQIA+ community, and their diversity is as normal as a diverse choice in music. RIP Tyrone."
