London houseboat community pays tribute to Jo Cox, one of their own
The close-knit community of London houseboat owners has paid tribute to slain British politician Jo Cox, blowing their horns for a two-minute tribute.
The 41-year-old Labour MP, who was fatally shot and stabbed in her constituency town of Birstall, West Yorkshire, lived on a houseboat on the River Thames at the Hermitage Moorings with her husband Brendan and two young children.
Just after her death, but before it was publicly announced, Cox's husband posted a picture of her standing in front of their London-moored houseboat.

Dozens of bouquets of flowers were laid on the boat by Cox's friends and neighbours after the Hermitage Moorings community invited people to pay their respects to her in Wapping.

Candles were lit in her honour as tearful residents gathered for a nautical tribute.

Horns were blasted three times before a two-minute blast as neighbours stood by their boats.
Anne Wainwright, chairman of Hermitage Moorings, said:
“Today is the saddest day of this close community. We have lost a dear, dear friend in the most tragic and outrageous circumstances. We pay tribute to our amazing, wonderful and spirited member of this community.
“A beacon of hope who believed in love, friendship and values that we all so much need at this time. The community will continue to be inspired by her relentless energy and commitment to all that is good.
“Our thoughts go to her husband Brendan and her two wonderful children.”
