Jon Stewart is best known as a comedian and former host of The Daily Show. But the truth is, he's so much more than that.

Anyone who follows his wife, author and activist Tracey Stewart on Instagram, for instance, will know that the two of them are also a heroic duo of animal saviours.

Behold:

Back in 2015, the Stewarts announced that they were partnering with animal protection organisation Farm Sanctuary, turning their farm in New Jersey into what essentially sounds like one big animal save haven.

Now it sounds like they're out saving animals on an almost daily basis. Back in 2016 they made headlines rescuing a bull named Frank, and on Monday they helped save two goats that strayed onto the NYC Subway line.

Those goats caused quite a stir on Twitter, but they ultimately ended up in the Stewarts' safe hands. Here's a video Farm Sanctuary shared on their Facebook page on Monday.

"They're safe now," wrote Farm Sanctuary on Facebook. "These goats were found terrified on the subway tracks in Brooklyn this morning. Tonight, they are on their way to our flagship sanctuary in Watkins Glen, NY, thanks to Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC), our friends Tracey and Jon Stewart, and our talented Farm Sanctuary rescue team."

What better way to spend your retirement than going around the city saving animals?
