Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcome a baby girl

There's a new baby on the (private gated community) block: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed a baby girl via a surrogate on Monday.

TMZ reported the news on Tuesday, and an announcement was posted to Kim's website shortly after.

Their message:

"Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl. We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care. North and Saint are especially thrilled to welcome their baby sister."

Kim confirmed the couple's use of a surrogate on her E! show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, though TMZ first reported the news in early September. In November, Kim accidentally revealed the sex of her child during an appearance on Ellen.

This is the third child for the couple. As she's often discussed in recent seasons of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim suffers from placenta accreta, a high-risk condition that made her first two pregnancies unusually challenging. For this reason, the couple opted to hire a surrogate to carry their child.
