Heed Twitter's warning: Don't buy your prom dress online

Prom dress shopping is an activity best done in person-- just ask any teen with a Twitter account.

For young shoppers hoping to purchase relatively inexpensive gowns online, what arrives in the mail doesn't always live up to what's advertised on the website.

Though knock-off designer dresses are no new thing -- WikiHow has a six-step guide to spotting online garment scams -- prom season always offers up particularly egregious examples of dress fraud. As an Inside Edition segment on the subject noted in 2015, websites offering beaded gowns for suspiciously low prices often steal photos from designer websites to lure in unsuspecting customers.

Ladies, just buy in store. Even better: DIY it.
