A woman dining with her girlfriend on Valentine's Day decided to fight back against homophobic comments the couple endured during what was supposed to be a romantic dinner.

According to a Facebook post from Ellie Parker, she and her girlfriend were dining at a Hibachi-style steak restaurant in Indiana when one of the cooks made presumptuous and offensive comments about their relationship.

"Our chef came to grill our food for us and was asking everyone if the person with them was their boyfriend or husband," Parker explains in a post of Facebook. "He got to my girlfriend and I and asked where our Valentine's were."

Parker continues, "We told him we were each other's Valentines. We were holding hands mind you. Clearly a couple. He proceeds to say 'well it is legal, but it's such a waste to not have a man.'"

"Don't tell lesbians they need a man on Valentine's Day."

Unfortunately, that wasn't the end. The cook apparently continued to dish out insults, saying he would come by to "heat things up."

So when it was time to settle up, Parker paid the bill in full and left the cook with a fitting tip.

"Don't tell lesbians they need a man on Valentine's Day," she wrote in the tip line on her credit card receipt.

According to Metro, the restaurant apologized and refunded her bill after her Facebook post started to get attention.

"The restaurant did refund our money but nothing can make up for the way we were treated. I hope sharing this helps others avoid this situation in the future," Parker told Metro.

Mashable has reached out to both Parker and the restaurant for additional information and comments, however, neither were immediately available.
