LG's V20 flagship phone promises superb hi-fi sound

In the world of smartphones, a "flagship" phone usually designates a company's best, most fully featured product. LG, however, challenges this definition: With its semi-modular design, the company's G5 was a different kind of flagship, and last year's V10, with its dual screen, was also an experiment of sorts.

Now, LG has begun to share details about its upcoming LG V20, scheduled for a Sept. 6 launch.

Besides being the first phone to feature the new version of Android, 7.0 or Nougat, the V20 will feature a 32-bit Quad DAC (digital to analog converter), made by ESS Technology.

In plain terms, this means less noise (LG claims a 50 percent reduction of ambient noise levels) and an overall better sound.

LG is not the first phone maker to focus on the phone's audio capabilities; ZTE's recent phones, as well as HTC's long-time obsession with delivering a great-sounding phone, come to mind.

LG did not share any other details about the LG V20; it'll be interesting to see whether it features a dual screen like its predecessor, or if it has borrowed some of G5's modularity. A set of possibly official renders (below) suggest that it might be closer to the G5 than the V10 when it comes to design.
