Things come up in your schedule, and cancellations are a necessary inconvenience. But when you've made an appointment to get your makeup done before a big event or a massage on your birthday and it falls through, it's The Worst.

(Okay, there are plenty of things worse in the world, but my shoulders are tense and you only turn 22 once.)

ManeStreem, an on-demand beauty platform, allows users to schedule instant beauty services from their phones. Within 45 minutes of booking, a beautician can be at your home or office.

The app launched in November of last year out of Philadelphia, as the app gains popularity, ManeStreem is being used all over the world. One hairdresser from the U.S. was visiting London and was able to get a client, according to company president Jody Iacovelli.

The services currently offered include haircuts, coloring, makeup, manicures, massages and more. The cost ranges, as stylists set their own prices.

First, users browse through the services and find what they're looking for. Then, the app uses their location to show a map of artists nearby who are available. They can request and appointment from there.

Users can also pay and tip their stylist from the app.

Beauticians suffer when there are cancellations as well; it means a smaller paycheck. Besides squeezing in extra or backup clients when they can, beauty providers can use the app traveling to make some spontaneous extra cash.

Two ManesStreem apps work in conjunction with one another: one for stylists and one for customers.

Beauticians must undergo a two-step screening process in order to serve via the site. Besides applying, they must have their credentials verified, undergo a background check, and submit their portfolios for approval. They must submit a biography and headshot. A "beauty industry veteran" personally checks all of the data.

The second step is to be "verified," a level above simply being on the site. A blue checkmark appears next to verified profiles, meaning they had a one-on-one interview with ManeStreem, gave a demonstration to the team, and their personal hygiene, beauty kit, and sanitation practices meet an expert's standards.

Professionals who go through the process to be verified are 10 times more likely to be booked, according to ManeStreem, and have exposure to VIP or even celebrity clients, access to more clientele in bridal parties or corporate events, social media exposure and exclusive training events.

On the stylists' version of the app, stylists go "active" when they are available to perform their services. Providers are required to respond to requests within three minutes or else they lose the request.

Stylists have the ability to rate clients who use the app, which in theory discourages bad tippers and rude customers.

Soon, ManeStreem will launch a pre-booking option, just in case you want to (or can) plan ahead.
