The people have spoken. They really, really want a gay Star Wars character, and for good reason. Representation matters.

Last week, J.J. Abrams said, "it seems insanely narrow minded to say that there wouldn't be a homosexual character in that world." Now Mark Hamill is echoing that sentiment -- and saying Luke could be the (first) one they're looking for.

“Fans are writing and ask all these questions, ‘I’m bullied in school... I’m afraid to come out’. They say to me, ‘Could Luke be gay?’ I’d say it is meant to be interpreted by the viewer," he told The Sun.

“If you think Luke is gay, of course he is," Hamill continued. "You should not be ashamed of it. Judge Luke by his character, not by who he loves.”

Hamill also reportedly answered a fan question about Luke's sexuality in January, via Twitter direct message.

A homosexual Luke may seem to disrupt the popular fan theory that Luke is Rey's father -- but it doesn't need to. If these people have sentient droids, they can probably manage in vitro Fertilization. It's important not to let Jedi DNA go to waste.
