'Planet of the Apes' series director Matt Reeves to direct 'The Batman' starring Ben Affleck

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt may have poked fun at the idea of "Too Many Spider-Men," but "too many Batmen" is a problem yet to plague Hollywood.

Warner Bros. announced Tuesday that Matt Reeves will direct The Batman, the next film starring Ben Affleck's Caped Crusader, that Affleck himself was originally slated to direct.

“I have loved the Batman story since I was a child," Reeves said in a Warner Bros. press release. "He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”

Reeves' directing credits include War for the Planet of the Apes and its predecessor Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, as well as the 2008 sci-fi thriller Cloverfield.
