A 'Friends' revival is the stuff of Matthew Perry's actual nightmares

And 'Friends' without Chandler is no 'Friends' worth seeing.

What's the worst thing that can happen when you revive a beloved TV show? People hate it -- or worse, don't even care. That's the nightmare stopping Matthew Perry from returning to Friends.

Seriously, he has nightmares.

Perry told Variety that he has a "recurring nightmare" about the show returning and falling into obscurity.

"I’m not kidding about this," he said in an interview about his upcoming play, The End of Longing. "When I’m asleep, I have this nightmare that we do Friends again and nobody cares. We do a whole series, we come back, and nobody cares about it. So if anybody asks me, I’m gonna say no. The thing is: We ended on such a high. We can’t beat it. Why would we go and do it again?"

In May, Jennifer Aniston said on a podcast that modern-day Friends would just be the gang on their cell phones, so that revival may not have been very interesting in the first place. Still, it's hard to imagine without Perry's Chandler adding a comment:

"Could we be any more antisocial?"
