Road trip lunchtime will never be the same.

On Thursday, McDonald's announced the removal of cheeseburgers from its Happy Meals, as well as smaller french fry serving sizes and reformulated chocolate milk.

The idea, allegedly, is to decrease the amount of sodium, sugar, calories, and saturated fat in meals promoted to children, but that didn't mean the internet accepted the changes quietly.

Happy Meals are a real cultural thing -- a lot of people feel nostalgic about eating them as kids (and, uh, now) -- and their reinvention certainly indicates the end of a classic fast food era. Take heart, however: hamburgers and Chicken McNuggets are still available as Happy Meal items, and you'll still be able to request a cheeseburger. It just won't be a standard offering.

Now, some of the finest reaction tweets.

Per CNN, all Happy Meals (Sad Meals) will have 600 calories or fewer by June of this year.
