Mr. Met flips off fans with non-existent middle finger after another loss

It's been a bad season for the Mets so far.

The New York Mets lost 7-1 to the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday, and Mets fans were not happy.

The loss was so hard to take, in fact, that the team's own mascot, the beloved Mr. Met, was caught doing something in the heat of the moment that no mascot with hands would ever dream of doing.

While walking toward the tunnel after the game, lovable Mr. Met flipped a fan the big, plush bird.

The video of Mr. Met's indiscretion was originally posted on Twitter by Tony De Lucia. According to the New York Post, De Lucia and his friends were leaning over the railing, waiting for high-fives from the baseball-headed icon and instead received the one-finger salute.

After a troublesome season so far for his team, including a slew of injuries and pitcher Matt Harvey just casually not showing up to a game, Mr. Met has had ENOUGH. He's tired, as are all Mets fans.

A Mets official told the Associated Press that more than one person dons the costume, and the person who wore it on Wednesday will not do so again.

The New York Mets released a statement on Twitter following the incident, apologizing for Mr. Met's crude behavior.

The New York Mets organization found the act unacceptable, but baseball fans found it absolutely hilarious and pretty on-the-nose for how the season's going.

Some pointed out that, technically, Mr. Met doesn't have a middle finger so the hysteria is irrelevant.

Others don't think the person behind the mask should be fired, but just the opposite. Give that mascot a raise!

The angry episode comes just a week after Mr. Met received a lovely recommendation letter from The New York Times. We're sorry to say, but it looks like baseball's darling will have to whip this letter out sooner than he hoped.
