Netflix is doubling down on kids' content with a pretty big new offering — and it's free for Netflix subscribers.

On Monday, Netflix announced its new standalone kids app called Netflix Playground. The app isn't a video streaming app as you might expect; rather, it's an interactive gaming app designed for kids aged eight and under.

The app is available now for Netflix subscribers in the United States.

According to Netflix, the app doesn't have any ads and won't offer any in-app purchases, making it completely kid-friendly. In addition, the app works without any mobile or WiFi connection too.

Users simply need to download the app and sign in to their Netflix account. From there, users will be able to instantly access a library of offline games featuring Peppa Pig, Sesame Street, Storybots, an assortment of games based on Dr. Seuss titles, and more.

Netflix just recently acquired the distribution rights to Sesame Street last year after its previous deal with HBO expired. Netflix released the first new episode of the series' 56th season in November.

Mashable's Chase DiBenedetto recently reported on the pivot to video games and gaming apps from entities that produce children's programming. While Netflix has introduced games for its adult user base for its main Netflix platform, Netflix Playground points to the company following the latest move to standalone platforms for kids' gaming.

The new Netflix Playground app is available now in the U.S. on both iOS and Android devices. It will launch globally on April 28.
