We're no closer to 'Winds of Winter,' but George R.R. Martin does have a new TV show in the works

But seriously, can we have more Game of Thrones'?

While Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin is hard at work (we hope) on the sixth novel in his A Song of Ice and Fire series, Syfy has announced that they're developing another one of the author's stories for television.

Sadly, it's not set in the GOT universe -- although Martin is said to be working on at least two of the four Game of Thrones spinoffs currently in development at HBO -- and is instead based on the author's 1980 space novella Nightflyers.

Set in the future on the eve of Earth’s destruction, Nightflyers follows a crew of explorers as they journey on the most advanced ship in the galaxy, The Nightflyer, to intercept a mysterious alien spacecraft that might hold the key to their survival. As the crew nears their destination, they discover that the ship’s artificial intelligence and never-seen captain may be steering them into deadly and unspeakable horrors deep in the dark reaches of space.

The novella was previously adapted into a 1987 film starring Catherine Mary Stewart, Michael Praed, James Avery, and John Standing.

The project hails from Universal Cable Productions, which is also developing another of Martin's properties for television: the Wild Cards series of novels and anthologies.

Martin is unable to work on either project, since he has an exclusive development deal with HBO; Nightflyers is being executive produced by Suits EPs Gene Klein and Doug Liman, David Bartis, Alison Rosenzweig, Michael Gaeta, Lloyd Ivan Miller, Alice P. Neuhauser, and Jeff Buhler, who will write the adaptation. Robert Jaffe, who penned the '87 film, will produce.

In addition to the development of Nightflyers, Syfy has picked up two other high-profile genre shows to series for the 2017-18 season.

Set two generations before the destruction of Superman's homeworld, Krypton follows the Man of Steel's grandfather (Cameron Cuffe) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.

Happy! stars Chrisopher Meloni as Nick Sax – an intoxicated, corrupt ex-cop turned hit man – who is adrift in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal. After a hit gone wrong, his inebriated life is forever changed by a tiny, relentlessly positive, imaginary blue winged horse named “Happy” (voiced by Saturday Night Live's Bobby Moynihan).
