TBS is developing a scripted comedy based on Biggie's music

TBS, the network that brought you Cougar Town, is developing a scripted comedy based on Notorious B.I.G, the New York rapper who was murdered in a drive-by shooting in 1997.

Technically, Think B.I.G. will only be "loosely based" on Biggie's lyrics, focusing the story on an inner-city teen "desperately trying to create a better future for his daughter and infant son."

Think B.I.G. is being produced and created by Mass Appeal, in partnership with Wayne Barrow of Bystorm Films and Voletta Wallace. It's one of TBS' two new projects with Mass Appeal -- the other is Storyville, a digital animated series that features the hilarious real-life stories from musicians, actors, comedians, writers and artists. "Storyville and Think B.I.G. speak to the types of projects we will cultivate with Mass Appeal moving forward," Brett Weitz, TBS executive vice president of original programming, said in a statement. "Mass Appeal is a leader in developing unique stories with diverse voices. There's no better partner for us to connect with this vibrant, impassioned audience."

The news comes a year after Freeform -- then ABC Family -- picked up a scripted comedy from Nicki Minaj.
