Barack Obama and Joe Biden have been out of office for just over 200 days, but writer and filmmaker Adam Reid isn't ready to let them go.

He's created an animated sci-fi story featuring the former president and vice president. Together the two travel back in time with astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson as as their guide. The "brothers from different mothers" fight injustice, save history, learn science, and right wrongs -- all in the nick of time.

This is the promise of Barry & Joe -- The Animated Series. Reid is trying to raise $100,000 on Kickstarter by the end of the month to put together a mini, 11-minute pilot episode of the animated politicians traveling back to their younger days. He's netted nearly $77,000 as of this writing.

The inspiration for the series was, of course, the election of our 45th president -- whom Reid promises will not be seen in the show, except for the occasional tiny orange hand. "After the election I needed some healing," Reid said in a call Tuesday from New York, where he works in TV advertising.

"It seemed kind of silly," he said, but he realized the idea wasn't "going to happen if I don’t put it out there."

So he's created this fantasy world where Obama and Biden are still working together, albeit as their younger selves, with cameos from Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and possibly Hillary Clinton. President Donald Trump isn't an outright villain in the storyline, instead it's more about humanity as the greater evil.

"(It's) much more about having a conversation with ourselves," as a society, Reid said. "We forgot how to relate to each other and laugh."

But Reid isn't shying away from calling his show leftist fan-fiction mixed with sci-fi and bromantic comedy vibes. It's very much a parody and not intended to be an anti-right statement.

With only about a day left, Reid is optimistic that supporters will fund the project and then some. In his fantasies, Reid sees the show with comedian Jordan Peele voicing Obama and actor Chris Pratt as Biden. NDGT would play himself. As Reid put it, "He’s like the sanest man in America right now."
