Save $149.99: For the second day of October Prime Day, the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones are just one cent away from their lowest price ever at $250. That nets you a total savings of 37% on their $399.99 list price.

As one of Mashable's resident headphones experts, I've been keeping my eyes peeled this October Prime Day for the best noise-cancelling headphones deals, and on day two, I spotted a strong contender for the top spot.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones dropped down to $250 at Amazon as of Oct. 8, beating their day one price by $48, and putting them just a cent away from their lowest price ever. At full price, these headphones run you $399.99, making this a whopping $149.99 discount.

It's not just the sheer size of the dollar amount that makes this one of the best deals I've seen from Prime Big Deal Days, though. Typically, these headphones do go on sale during shopping holidays, but hover around that aforementioned $298 price point. In fact, the last time we saw them hit the $249.99 price point was back in March.

Then, there's the fact that even when I compared them head-to-head, I found the Sony WH-1000XM5 held up to their newer counterpart, the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones. (Those are also on sale for October Prime Day, but for a much for modest $20 off, putting them at $428). The design is nearly identical, minus the folding ear cups and a couple of on-ear controls. The sound quality is slightly warmer and fuller on the XM6, but the XM5s still give some of the best sound on the market. The noise-cancelling power is about the same, as is the battery life.

In other words, you can get a pair of premium headphones for about $200 less than the price of most newer options on the market, making this WH-1000XM5 deal worth checking out this fall Prime Day.
