Oculus Rift pre-orders are finally all caught up
If you pre-ordered an Oculus Rift at any point after orders opened in January then you should have shipping confirmation at the very least.
All pre-orders for the virtual reality headset have shipped, as Oculus confirmed in a new blog post. Orders placed on the company's website right now should ship within 2-4 business days.
The Rift is largely responsible for setting off the current widespread interest in consumer virtual reality, but the young company behind it wasn't able to meet demand fast enough at launch. That's why shipping has played catch-up for the past three and a half months, following the headset's March 28 launch.

The delays did not sit well with a hyped up fan community made up -- primarily -- of Oculus' most ardent supporters. The company said it was sorry by removing the shipping cost of pre-orders, but some felt that an explicit apology and more frequent communication was needed.
The announcement that pre-orders are up to date is accompanied by a formal apology from Oculus:
We want to apologize for the delays in getting Rifts to doorsteps. We appreciate that without your support, VR wouldn’t be where it is today. Thank you for your patience over the past few months.
Missing, however, is any specific indication of when Oculus Touch -- the Rift's motion-sensing hand controllers -- will arrives. It's still on track for "later this year," but that's all we know.
Oculus also announced the 2016 return of Oculus Connect, a three-day event -- Oct. 5-7 -- focused on the company's products. It seems inconceivable that an announcement of the Touch release timing would wait that long, but we can safely speculate that it won't be any later.
With all pre-orders up to date, Oculus is making more noise about the headset's once-maligned retail availability. Microsoft Store customers will be able to demo the headset starting in July 2016, and the Rift's ongoing Best Buy presence should expand to 500 more stores this fall.
