After introducing Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Regina found out she could separate herself physically from her evil past and destroy the Evil Queen for good. Even though it was tough, she ripped out the queen’s heart and crushed it so she could live a happy life in Storybrooke.
However, at the end of the episode, the Evil Queen rose from the ashes to kill The Dragon -- remember him from the previous NYC episodes?-- and deliver a warning message.
“Regina never should have let me out to play. I came to set the record straight. There was a battle raging inside of Regina and she may have won the fight, but this is a war. And it’s just begun,” she says before ripping out his heart. “The queen is back.”

Another big evil presence in the finale was Hyde, who struck a deal with Rumplestiltskin to take over Storybrooke. He plans to fill the town with friends from the Land of Untold Stories, which likely means we’ll be seeing a slew of new quirky characters next season.
There’s a mixed bag of emotions surrounding the Evil Queen’s return and the finale in general.
Most of them involve Henry, who was at the center of the episode as he tried to destroy magic and then immediately pulled an Elf and used a magical fountain full of coins to get New Yorkers to believe in magic. That may be the least believable storyline in Once’s history.
