The quest for the perfect selfie continues. We can all use our smartphones to take a good selfie, but taking a great selfie requires a little more work after the fact. You need to find the right app and then make the right tweaks before it's post-worthy.

There are plenty of cameras out there that promise to take the best selfies, but few like the new Panasonic GF9.

At $550, the GF9 is reasonably priced for a 16-megapixel mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. It's small enough to fit in a coat pocket or a purse and has a design inspired by old school film cameras.

On the back, you'll find a 3.0-inch touchscreen with 1040K-dot resolution that automatically snaps a selfie when it's flipped 180 degrees upward.

In addition to a myriad of face "beautifying" modes that'll digital retouch any imperfections you have on your face, there's a group selfie mode that'll choose the shot where everyone is smiling, and modes to slim faces and soften skin. The camera even takes panoramic selfies for those group selfies where everyone has to squeeze in.

Panasonic's even made it easy to get a photos with bokeh (background blur) using the "Background Control" feature.

The GF9 also has two nifty hands-free shooting modes for selfie addicts. The camera automatically takes a selfie when you wave your hand in front of it or when two faces are closer in the frame.

Its video capture is pretty good, too: 4K resolution at either 30 or 24 frames per second with the ability to extract 8-megapixel (4K-res) still photos.

Selfie junkies can pick one up in February.
