2017 is proving to be a very, very good year for Stephen King fans.

Last month Warner Bros. dropped the trailer for the new IT remake, and yesterday we finally got our first glimpse of the upcoming Dark Tower movie.

There was a hell of a lot to unpack in the new trailer, like where exactly will the film fit in the Stephen King cannon? And why wasn't the Horn of Eld visible?

But in all the excitement over the trailer release, we all completely overlooked one massive Stephen King Easter egg hiding in Dark Tower.

Here's a still from the trailer of the films protagonist the films protagonist Jake walking through the ruins of Mid World:

The clip is only up for a second, but if we look a bit closer at that sign, the words looks eerily familiar:

Yep, the sign reads "Pennywise," A.K.A. everyone's favorite nightmare clown and the main antagonist of IT.

Below the word "Pennywise" are some peeling letters that look like they might once have said "Circus." On the right is a rotting structure of a hand holding some balloons.

What does the reference mean?

It's a nice Easter egg, but it's probably nothing to get too excited about. Stephen King likes to weave his characters and creations throughout his work (many of the characters in The Dark Tower books also appear in other stories, for instance). In fact, It's Pennywise has also been referenced in books like Dreamcatcher and 11/22/63.

Will the demonic clown be making an appearance in the Dark Tower movie? It's very, very unlikely. But it's nice to see that the makers of the film are paying homage to King's hardcore fanbase.
