PlayStation VR bundle pre-orders go live on Mar. 22, Core one week later
UPDATED Mar. 22 9:02 a.m. ET
Sony's made a few changes to its PSVR pre-order plans. Now you'll be able to order the "Core" bundle -- which is just the VR headset and everything you need to connect it -- on Mar. 29 at 7 a.m. PT.
The previous plan didn't include an option for Core pre-orders through Sony (though other retailers are offering it). Fan feedback is what led Sony to offer Core pre-orders as well.

The launch bundle details remain the same as they were; pre-orders open at 7 a.m. PT on Mar. 22 for the $499 package, which gets you everything you need to play in VR on day one (except a PS4).
Original story follows...
Pre-orders for PlayStation VR kick off on Mar. 22 -- but only if you want to grab an everything-plus-the-kitchen-sink bundle. (And the kitchen sink's not actually included.)
The "PlayStation VR Launch Bundle" costs $499.99, adding $100 to the base price for just a headset. It's the only pre-order offer Sony will have. Fortunately, it's also a cost-saving deal that gets you everything you need to enjoy a full virtual reality experience on your PlayStation 4.
In addition to a VR headset, the bundle includes headphones, a PlayStation Camera (required for PSVR to work, but not included with the base package), two PlayStation Move motion controllers and the game PlayStation VR Worlds.
Considering the camera retails for $60 and a single Move controller costs $50 (though you can find both for less), the bundle is definitely a cost-saver. Only the camera is required, but the Move controllers are the core of many PSVR experiences that we've seen.
Pre-orders for the $500 bundle go live at 7 a.m. PT on Mar. 22. Supplies will be limited, so plan accordingly. Sony won't be offering pre-orders of the standalone headset, so you'll need to turn to other retailers if you want to secure one of those in advance.
