It's not just that you think everyone around you is playing Pokémon Go. Everyone really is playing Pokémon Go, according to new data from Apple.

Apple said the augmented reality game was the most downloaded app on its App Store during the first week of release ever. That's the best first week in all eight years of the App Store's history, and beats out social networks and hit games alike.

Pokémon Go is continually breaking download records, as it's also the fastest mobile game to reach over 10 million downloads, according to analyst group Sensor Tower. The same company reported that people are more engaged in playing, taking away from time they'd normally spend in other apps. (It beat out Facebook for time spent in the app.)

Of course, people are hungry for information surrounding Pokémon Go, and YouTube said it is the third-most-watched game on its platform, only behind titans Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto V.

Tha app's success also pushed Nintendo's stock to new heights this week (despite the fact the company is only tangentially involved in its development through partial ownership of The Pokémon Company). Nintendo has made more than $23 billion from its stock climb since the game launched in the U.S. two weeks ago. (It's definitely not hurting Apple's coffers either, since the company gets 30 percent of all revenue those millions spend on PokéCoins.)

So when you see someone taking up space on the sidewalk, looking distracted on the job or (hopefully not) walking into traffic, ask them about their Pokémon habit.
