This is why we can't have nice things.

Police in O'Fallon, Missouri, on Sunday said they are investigating a string of armed robberies targeting Pokémon Go players.

On its Facebook page, the O'Fallon Missouri Police Department said it believes the criminals are using the app -- which acts as a kind of AR/GeoCache game -- to find players they could target.

In other words, bad guys opened up the app, found Pokéstops (locations marked in the game that players can visit to collect various items and sometimes, Pokémon) with nobody around them and ambushed the unsuspecting Pokémon Go players who showed up.

It's also possible the suspects could have used the Lure Module (which you can purchase inside the game) to lure players to a specific Pokéstop.

The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is charging three men -- one 17 years old, the other two 18 -- for the Pokémon Go-related crimes. They are being charged with robbery in the first degree, with bail set at $100,000 cash.

This isn't the first time Pokémon Go has brushed with law enforcement. On Friday, a teenager in Wyoming discovered a dead body while playing the game.

In Australia, Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services posted on Facebook that even though the Darwin Police station is a Pokéstop, players don't actually need to go inside the station to collect their loot.

Pokémon Go is a great game, but users should be aware of their surroundings when playing, especially if you're not familiar with the area.
