Rihanna pays tribute to Prince on a purple stage

Anyone familiar with Rihanna's sassy side-eye and eccentric style or her song "Kiss It Better" knows the singer is heavily influenced by Prince.

So when she took the stage on Thursday night as the world was still processing the news of Prince's death, she paid tribute with a stirring performance of "Diamonds"  -- on a purple stage, of course.

"Today is a very sad day in music," she said. "A sad day to music lovers, musicians, fans all over the world who lost one of the greatest legends, Prince. We will miss you. A lot of us started making music and listening to music because of Prince, so right now I just wanna honor him, me and my crew, and you guys. Let’s shine some light to heaven for Prince right now."
