LOS ANGELES -- By now we've all heard of the kids who endeavored to re-make Raiders of the Lost Ark using only their wits and a VHS camera. But how well does their handiwork hold up in the online trailer age?

Pretty well, as it turns out. Alamo Drafthouse Films, which is releasing the documentary Raiders! The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made, spliced footage from the re-shoot -- a project the three 11-year-old friends started in 1982 and didn't finish until college -- against each shot from the original film's trailer.

You gotta hand it to 'em: What amounts to a random sampling of their shots compared as closely to frame-by-frame as possible with the Raiders of the Lost Ark theatrical trailer yields a most impressive result.

Raiders! The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made, meanwhile, comes to theaters and on VOD on June 17. Here's the trailer for the documentary, which we're pretty sure Eric Zala, Chris Strompolos and Jayson Lamb will not be re-making shot-for-shot.

But how meta would that be?

For the next couple of months, the cast and filmmakers are taking the documentary on the road for a series of double features and Q&As, starting Thursday in Seattle and ending July 30 in Athens, Georgia. Drafthouse Films has details on dates and tickets.
