Warning: minor spoilers for 'Red Dead Redemption II' ahead. Also major spoilers for 'Red Dead Redemption'.

We already knew that Red Dead Redemption II would feature some familiar faces. Gang leader Dutch Van Der Linde has been slated as a main character from the outset.

But the new trailer released Wednesday seriously ramped up its game, and one moment in particular blew the minds of every single Red Dead fan.

That's right, John Marston is back baby!

The gun totin', animal skinnin' protagonist from the first game appeared for a split-second in the trailer. He seems pretty green -- first, because those trademark scars look very recent. Second, because the Marston we know and love would never let himself get head-locked like a scrub.

Maybe we'll get to see him joining Van Der Linde's gang, committing the awful crimes he had to atone for in Red Dead Redemption. Hopefully being young and impressionable won't stop John yelling "I'm gonna kill you!" when he charges into battle.

There is of course every possibility that John's role in Red Dead Redemption II will be minimal, and if the game's really going to live up to its name it'll have to spend some time developing its new protagonist, Arthur Morgan.

Still, the promise of Marston is enough to send shivers down any fan's spine. What any of us wouldn't give to resurrect our dearly departed John?

But we have to wait a while for that sweet, sweet gratification. The game is coming Oct. 26 to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One systems.
