‘Revenant’ director Alejandro G. Iñárritu looked grouchy when 'Mad Max' won an Oscar
CORRECTION, 5 p.m. PT Wednesday: Alejandro G. Iñárritu did, in fact, clap for Jenny Beavan as she took the stage at the Oscars, and later issued a statement praising the Oscar winner that Mashable has since published in full. The original headline in this post -- ‘Revenant’ director Alejandro G. Iñárritu didn't clap when 'Mad Max' won an Oscar -- has been changed, and minor edits were made below to remove excessive speculation about why the attendees were not clapping.

Oscars viewers noticed Sunday night that The Revenant director Alejandro G. Iñárritu -- among several other men seated in the section -- refused to clap after Jenny Beavan won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for her work on Mad Max: Fury Road. Beavan -- who has been nominated 10 times and now won twice -- was up against Revenant's costume designer Jacqueline West.
Some speculated that Iñárritu wasn't clapping after becoming irritated that Mad Max was sweeping the technical categories. Others still suggested that those in the video simply didn't clap because Beavan may have taken too long to walk to the stage.
Regardless of the reason, it's upsetting to imagine that members of the film industry not supporting one another, especially a badass like Beavan.
