A new member has been added to your Slack workspace: ChatGPT.

On Tuesday, Salesforce and OpenAI introduced ChatGPT integration for Slack. The popular messaging platform, which is owned by Salesforce, will soon let customers use OpenAI's generative AI technology within Slack.

The ChatGPT app for Slack has a number of features that work within the platform's existing interface. The AI technology will enable users to summarize conversation channels or threads, quickly search for information about projects and topics — and yes, draft messages, replies, and notes.

Slack is a bedrock for millions of companies. Especially since organizations have gone remote, teams use it in lieu of emails, meetings, and watercooler chitchat. With Slack Connect, companies even use it to communicate with clients and other external parties. But you probably already know all of this that because you use Slack yourself.

Aside from Microsoft's partnership with OpenAI to launch the new Bing, ChatGPT has mostly been used to freak out the internet with its sophisticated yet conversational responses and writing. But since OpenAI recently launched an API for third-party developers, the floodgates are open for companies looking to enhance or build new products with the buzzy AI technology. Last week, Snap, Inc. and Instacart announced their own integrations with OpenAI's technology. Now, Slack incorporating ChatGPT's capabilities is a new example of how AI is bursting into the workplace.

Salesforce also announced Einstein GPT in partnership with OpenAI. It's a generative AI tool for the widely-used customer relationship management technology that Salesforce is best known for. Einstein GPT builds off of Salesforce's pre-existing artificial intelligence which gives companies insights about their customers and helps with customer service. Now companies that use Salesforce will be able to automatically generate sales tasks, gather information about leads, draft outreach emails, and harness ChatGPT's technology for talking to customers and clients.

Salesforce didn't share when ChatGPT for Slack will launch, but for now, you can sign up for the waitlist.
